Totally unrelated to the new NSO headlines, here’s an ethical poll: *Without naming a specific company!*, might you ever not hire a qualified infosec person purely because they previously worked for a specific company you consider deeply unethical? (Aside from law or policy!)

Zero snark. I’m genuinely curious how that moral / ethical dilemma would play out in your minds. People have to eat and support their families. Yet some companies have done truly despicable things, and it would be hard to be unaware as a highly paid individual contributor.

It's a thing I've taken into account when hiring before (for a managerial role, not as an individual contributor). We didn't exactly treat it as 100% ruling them out, but it definitely counted against them.

Which unfortunately helps create a double standard where better candidates can get away with more, but especially with a manager it's important to get a sense of their character and "I worked at a bad company and don't seem to mind that" is evidence of that.
