Personally, I think it’s because the world rewards productivity and not problem solving. A lot of productivity relies on not problem solving, because then the goal posts for productivity change.
True after a point, certainly, but I feel like most people's skill level is at a point where increasing their problem solving skills would still be professionally rewarded.
So, a lawyer friend of mine is a good example. If she bills based off of looking through books as opposed to searching a pdf, she makes more money. I know a person who owns property who wants more housing but will vote down housing expansion to protect his interests.
