Making feel guilty and awkward around earning money is such a great tool of social control. I've kinda got to begrudgingly respect whatever asshole came up with it.

Mistrusting greedy period is a sensible heuristic, as is trying to avoid appearing greedy. Most people will still take money when it's available.
Equating earning more money with being greedy is, however, a truly terrible heuristic
