there are currently so many domain experts and source texts that (eg) it feels useless to write about the same subject because they do it better, and why wouldn't the audience go read them?

so instead people go for value-add, which is humour, a quirky spin (check out threads by @ mikamckinnon on "you find a rock"!), blowing up myths, or writing in a medium that is not yet colonised by the experts

(by "writing" i really mean "creating in"; you might record videos or podcasts, take photos, etc)

Conversation is a multiplayer game, not an attempt to dump information into other people's brain. The infodump is a tiny fraction of the value of talking about your interests - the value is the combined social/emotional/intellectual experience.

it doesn't work if experienced/advanced/better-equipped people come to mine for status by dominating you in the conversation

Yeah, games suck when you play with griefers (or unintentional fun-ruiners). But I maintain my answer is true: Talking about your interests is good and necessary even if someone "communicates them better". Things that stop you from doing that are problems, not intrinsic.

Yeah I'm not dismissing the problem. It's totally a problem, albeit not one I experience as much, and I'm not telling you to ignore it. I'm saying that talking about your interests is intrinsically good, and the existence of problems doesn't mean it's not.

Doesn't mean you should ignore the problems and do it anyway. That's hard and demoralising. Does mean that finding a way to solve the problems and doing it there might be worthwhile?
