A thing I've been thinking about recently a lot is how dumb it is to have something good and feel bad about it.

This came up in some planning this morning where I was thinking "I could solve this problem really well by throwing an extra $500/month at it." Can I do this? Well, it's not ideal, but it's certainly affordable. But then I felt bad about the fact that it was affordable.

Note: Not the fact that I would be spending the money on something frivolous (it's a serious problem, and one I think I am entitled to solve, and I already give a fair bit of money to charity), but the fact that I *could* do that when other people can't made me feel guilty.

So anyway I'm probably going to try to solve the problem by throwing money at it and feeling good about that.

This thought process was originally prompted not by privilege but by the idea of guilty pleasures. e.g. If I'm going to read trashy fiction and feel bad about that, why bother? Might as well either not read it or read it and really enjoy it.

Replying to @GeniesLoki
what if feeling bad about it is part of the pleasure

If I'm going to go full existential kink on my bad habits I'm going to pick more interesting habits to do it with.
