This came up in some planning this morning where I was thinking "I could solve this problem really well by throwing an extra $500/month at it." Can I do this? Well, it's not ideal, but it's certainly affordable. But then I felt bad about the fact that it was affordable.

Note: Not the fact that I would be spending the money on something frivolous (it's a serious problem, and one I think I am entitled to solve, and I already give a fair bit of money to charity), but the fact that I *could* do that when other people can't made me feel guilty.

So anyway I'm probably going to try to solve the problem by throwing money at it and feeling good about that.

This thought process was originally prompted not by privilege but by the idea of guilty pleasures. e.g. If I'm going to read trashy fiction and feel bad about that, why bother? Might as well either not read it or read it and really enjoy it.

second order emotions are the root of all emotional dysfunction ok maybe 75%. but for the overthinkers it's 100%. and sometimes you can Transcend and go meta which solves the 2nd order problem but also creates fun new ones!

Hmm IDK I think a lot of overthinkers are overthinkers because of some straightforward first order emotional dysfunctions which result in them being in threatened mode all the time.

i’m growing increasingly convinced that privilege-guilt is destructive and clouds people’s judgment more than it helps

I think this is true yeah.
