    After all that talk about the Old Town at last evening, a 1905 beautifully 'tinted' postcard of the Bayle Gate. A castellated gatehouse, it was the main entrance to the Priory. Built around the end of the 14th century. It now houses an interesting museum.

    The Gazette dated 17 September 1884 reported that 'Mrs Langtry' (Lily) opened for six nights at the theatre. 'The house was not only crowded at extra prices, but hundreds were unable to gain admission...The orchestra and boxes presented a brilliant scene.

    Another long lost building from . The Londesborough Rooms, a multi use venue, opened in 1871 before being altered several times eventually becoming a 2000 seat theatre/cinema. It became a full time cinema in 1925. It showed its final films in 1959.

    The sale of printed books rose in the UK in 2018 for the 4th year running. Just under 191 million books were sold last year; sales grew 2.1% in value & 0.3% in volume. Not bad, given that a few years ago, when e-books took off, books were being dismissed as moribund .
