May 22, 1969 – Thomas Stafford & Eugene Cernan pilot the Apollo 10 15 km (9.4 mi) above lunar surface as a dress rehearsal for landing on the moon. Tom Stafford was a student of mine at the Air Force Test Pilot School. Fine fellow.

Did they use metric units during Apollo?

I remember it well - from the 11 year old civilian side. I picked a great time to be born. Missed WW II and got to see the space age unfold. Sorry I missed the sound barrier, but you're still my favorite aviator.

It's incredible that we sent men to orbit the moon (but didn't land there), and hardly ANYONE realizes it...

General Tom Stafford, an officer and a gentleman. One of the smartest of men I have ever had the privilege to meet.

I met Tom Stafford when I was 12 years old, my first astronaut and an Apollo one to boot. Really nice guy.

I met Mr. Stafford once at Logan Airport in Boston. He was very nice to me and we had a great conversation about his career. Great man.
