      I recently visited with the former mayor of Cours Les Bains, France. At age 6, he saw my plane shot down. His father found the window of my canopy & kept it safe. He showed it to me in 2008 & offered it to me but we decided a museum. #WWII, #LotetGaronne Nice visit

      He briefly goes through that in his biography "Yeager" (in case you haven't read it). The story of his getting downed during WWII and escaping to Spain is crazy, out of the "Great evasion" movie.

      I grew up at Hahn and have since 1991 been preserving fighter pilot heritage & memorabilia from the 50th TFW (during the General's days there a Fighter Bomber Wing) so such personally told storied are the best.
