1) Which British-built aircraft have you flown? Eg Hunters or Lightnings?

1. Spitfires, others 2. Yes. Bell X-1 was not based on any British airplane - it was designed before the M-52

Thank you very much for your reply General. Not the 1st time Wikipedia has been wrong! I’d read elsewhere the designers at Bell had based the X1’s fuselage on the shape of a bullet & it’s thin straight wings look quite different to the M.52’s swept wings (to my untrained eyes!)
