Oct 10, 1947: 8th powered flight in X-1. To counteract the shock wave disabling the horizontal stabilizer, I put the X-1 in a turn to simulate a faster speed at straight & level & manually changed the angle of incidence. Next flight... @HISTORY #aviation #sound #soundbarrier
