I think that was a Curtis P-1 Hawk. The later Curtis P-6 Hawk was the best looking biplane ever built.

General, one of the highlights of my life was meeting you at Barksdale AFB after you left Embry Riddle with a Honorary Degree and landed in a squall line for the Independence Bowl in an F-4. We also later chatted at the football game. May God Bless and continue to watch over you.
