May 8, 1944 #VEDay We won. I was in #Texas as an instructor #pilot & V E Day changed that. As an evadee, I got first choice of base. I chose Wright Field because it was closest to home - Hamlin, #WestVirginia. Turned out to be a good choice in more ways than one. @HISTORY

Wright field. Later Wright-Patterson - my first flying assignment, flew with a friend of yours, Gen Yates. Retired in the reserves there many years later.
