While on active duty, I was ordered to go talk to Officers & train them on how to communicate with enlisted men. I also received orders to help communications between the US & the French military. #Communication @POTUShttps://twitter.com/AFSpecOpsCmd/status/1244779786871939072 …

How different were the backgrounds of enlisted men and officers then and is it much different now?

Officers were elitists. Enlisted men were not

Hah. Kinda a '"general"ist, generalish statement though. Also you didn't answer his whole question. The "how is it now part". Also, did you really ask yer engineer fer a stick a gum fore droppin off in the X-1 to fly thru the sound barrier? Now that's a cool customer.

A point is made at official military training to explain the history of the salute. Approaching knights would raise their visors to determine friend or foe. In feudal society knights were in charge and a different class than those that supported him. (1 of 5)

Unapproachable back then. Land owners, could determine how their world turned out by their voice. The gap is better now days but still there. It's passed down structure. Structure to foster the best out of a combat unit because you have to have someone in charge. (2 of 5)

Some officers - the ones who needed training at a certain base - had an arrogant attitude which undermined leadership capability
