I would pick a P-51 just to feel what it’s like to be a badass in WW2. Of course the later model with the Merlin engine!

General Yeager doesn't miss flying at all. He still goes up now and again with either me or another co-pilot who is very competent. But there is so much to see and do otherwise.

As a civilian having flown both a P-51 and an L-39, imo the modern jet wins hands down. The L39 is a creature of power, elegance and dexterity, while the P-51 is a ferocious rattletrap that nearly shook my bones apart. Hats off to the airmen who flew those beasts in wartime.

I prefer the machine you have to finesse. Having flown the p-47, hellcat, b-17 and F-18s I prefer the spit and hellcat. It takes a real pilot and skill to fly those machines. Finessing the mix, prop pitch, overcoming p factor and immense torque. The hornet is point and go lol
