A member of my family from WV used to compete with Chuck years ago to see who could fly the fastest. “Tick” Lilly died when his aircraft exploded. Don’t know if Chuck remembers him but he is part of my family history. Have a wonderful Christmas Joe.

Never competed with anyone from NACA. He was not the third to fly faster than sound.

Hello General Yeager. Howard “Tick” Lilly was a young test pilot from West Virginia who died in 1948 when his D-558 aircraft exploded and crashed. He was 31.
