That’s true. I didn’t know much about that. I don’t know if the Americans knew about that or if it was a parallel invention.

There seems to have been two programs to break the sound barrier, one British, one American. Similarities on both programs. The British were apparently test the flying tail on an aircraft in 1943. Presumably the Americans were testing the flying tail at the same time period.
