I am glad I got to fly through “the barrier.” I did it in 1997, and I really never understood the true physical significance until that flight.

Would you mind going into why you initially thought supersonic was impossible?

I doubt that the engineers thought it was impossible. The V2 flew at Mach 3 and it was stable. They probably had questions about how controllable supersonic flight was. I don’t know what the pilots thought about it though.
