I don’t believe he did. The flight testing and evaluation of the Zero was done before he was a test pilot.

Yup, and my Dad had the privilege of invading Attu in May 1943 and the Kiska in August. A couple of dozen men lost their lives on Kiska due to friendly fire or Japanese built booby traps, the Japanese had evacuated the island a few weeks earlier.
