Today in 1948, Chuck Yeager flew Bell X-1 to the highest velocity and altitude of any piloted airplane up to that date. He reached Mach 1.45 and flew to an altitude of 71,900 feet. #IdeasThatDefy pic.twitter.com/PoXszsNdWl

The plane was based on a British plane that that the UK government refused to fund. Our loss was your gain

What the Miles M,52? Maybe he does maybe he doesn't. I don't know. He simply said - wrong. Do you know about the Miles M.52?

I can't recall the title off the program I watched, not network TV though. It was all about breaking the sound barrier. Probably something on a Roku channel.

Nova. And they got it wrong. The Bell X-1 was nothing like the Miles 52 and was not based on it.

Maybe then I am guilty of British bias!!!!! Allegedly research was passed by technicians at Miles to Bell. And scale models did perform reasonably well

BTW General I was in Encliffe Park in Sheffield along with 10000 recently others paying homage to the brave crew of Mi Amigo. The RAF and USAF paid a fantastic tribute. Did you see it Stateside?
