Hey General Yeager. Hope you are doing well. Just wondering what changes were made to the Bell X-1 that made the difference in breaking the sound barrier from the ones before. Thank you.

As I recall, the X1 came equipped with Yeager and Ridley, who figured out that a moving tail would allow control to be maintained through the transonic zone.

General, when is the last time you were up and flying in one of those classics?

General, if the fighters get ahead of the bombers, wouldn’t that risk the Germans decoying them away and then pouncing on the bombers? What avoided that?

My father flew B - 17s in the 8th Airforce. Loved the P 51 escorts. Had nothing good to say about Jimmy Doolittle but loved Curtiss Lemay.

Doolittle’s Raid was a pretty gutsy move.

Hampton's book Chasing the Demon had some great stories about you and others seeking to fly beyond the speed of sound. Highly recommend.
