My dad was mentioning the same present last night. He grew up on the east coast of Canada.

My Mother talks about oranges for Christmas being special. Northern Minnesota, late 30s and 40s. Merry Christmas, General.

I was gonna say the same thing. My mother grew up in St Louis county in that same era and we always got a fresh, juicy navel orange in our stocking.

I grew up in eastern Kanawha county. We weren't terribly poor, but weren't wealthy either. We always got oranges in our stockings too, but our stockings were just old panty hose cut in half! Always enjoy your posts. Merry Christmas from one West Virginian to another.

Oh my gosh--just took me back to my grandma's stories! Born in Minnesota in 1892; her fave Christmas memories: as a child every Christmas, she & her brothers & sister each got a fifty cent piece and an orange; which was a very big deal.

I guess I was spoiled. I got an orange and a handful of mixed nuts.
