We are still waiting for the SST to get there. Plus, it was Brit tech that got you past Mach 1 remember

Now now. not accurate. But it is a shame British didn't want to use the flying tail. They said their grandfathers hadn't so why should they?

Actually, all the pioneering work done in the U.K by Miles Aircraft Corp was handed over to the US after the war.

In 2018? It sure as hell wasn't handed over before we broke the sound barrier.

It's sad to see how Jeremy Clarkson disrespects a living legend like General Chuck Yeager, He must remember that he is contradicting not only one of the best test Pilots in History, General Yeager is a Hero and has inspired many people like me.GOD BLESS GENERAL @GenChuckYeager

Disagree doesn't mean disrespect. So he was a great test pilot.... I'm great at procrastinating...doesn't mean anyone who disagrees with me about wasting time is automatically wrong and disrespectful.

1943, actually. If I'm reading this internet correctly there was some kind of a war going on.

I can't believe I'm alive in 2018 to watch a British TV host whose only aviation qualification is sending a PA flying over a cold dinner, try to "Well Actually" one of the most famous Test pilots and Aviators in history.

The M.52, while having a passing resemblance to the X-1 has a couple a big differences- 1. It's jet powered, not rocket powered, and 2. The flying tail is low mounted, and not high mounted, as in the X-1. There's probably a bit of borrowing there, but hard to say we stole it.

It’s all very well saying “you’re wrong, you’re wrong” but could you provide the evidence that @JeremyClarkson is incorrect in his assertions. Brits didn’t expect a lot but perhaps a little bit of acknowledgement and gratitude wouldn’t have gone amiss?? Just a thought.
