Wikipedia is often hearsay. The X-1 was NOT based on Miles 52. British pilots were killing themselves literally incl, but not limited to, Geoffrey de Havilland trying to be the 1st and not achieving it. It took the Brits over 5 years to learn our discovery. #BellX1, @USAirforce
