While no actor truly encapsulates the real person, Sam did play a pretty cool you in the movie :)

Agreed. He channeled Yeager in a way that really gave his achievements a humanity and almost a poetry. Shepard was a great writer and poet as well as a great actor, so I think he interpreted what Yeager did and who he was through a really unique personal perspective of his own.
