August 14, 1953 – Sound barrier is broken over Australia for 1st time by Flt Lt Bentleigh, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), in 1st Australian-built Sabre fighter at Avalon, Victoria. I went Mach 2.5 just 4 mos later at Edwards AFB in the X-1A @usairforce @EdwardsAFB #Yeager
