Without Operation Husky, I shudder to think about how the Normandy invasion would have gone. The allies learned a lot of vital lessons in Sicily yet it’s a campaign that doesn’t much attention any more.
July 4, 1943:Allied NW African Air Force begins heavy day-& night attacks agst Axis airfields in Sicily, Sardinia, & Italy prepping for Sicily invasion. Italy claims to fly 650 fighter sorties & Germany 500 July 1-9 in defense but almost all Axis airfields are knocked out #WWII
