Worked in industry for 20 years. People always saying there’s a better way. Most small restaurant owners are on thin profit margins esp first few years. Tough business. When I worked in shared houses everyone seemed to work harder. Complex convo. But ultimately you’re right, tip.

My family owned a small restaurant in Santa fe new Mexico for literal decades. Grew up in the restaurant and even helped/worked when I was a kid. Learned to always treat your waiter/server well and to tip. Too many assholes out there.

At a lunch with co-workers: "She has such an attitude. How hard can it be to just bring our food. Bet she expects a tip, too." We were a table of 18 ppl. 2 ppl kept changing their minds and being PITA. The company was paying and there was still bitching about tipping.
