๐ชง 500,000 workers are on strike today
๐ We shouldnโt be surprised โ strikes, decaying public services and stagnant living standards are the product of our political choices
๐ฅพโฐ The economic fix is simple, but the political challenge is immense

I guess GBNews and the usual radio blowhards think this is โwokeโ and has destroyed Dรผsseldorf. I think it just looks like a city with the right priorities.

Liberalism can be used as a means for conservative ends
Quote Tweet
Always stunning to hear conservatives say we need to be unashamed of our conservative beliefs, before proceeding to describe liberalism.

Astonishing that these discriminatory barriers are still proudly installed by councillors.

Delighted to see that following months of dangerous, noisy drifting on @ThamesPathNT by golf range, @Royal_Greenwich has installed a barrier to stop motor+quad bikes+cars on Tunnel Ave path entrance @Will_nicholas @dscottmcdonald @mtpennycook

One more thought for this - markets are not entirely facts and maths. Itโs not inherently wrong to criticise an orthodoxy that has led us to a two decade growth dead end. Markets are people and politics as much as they are about maths.

It seems to me that Truss correctly described the syndrome (low growth).
But she is yet to diagnose the disease (a restrictive housing and planning vetocracy).
She then administered the wrong treatment (sugar rush tax cuts before the bitter green vegetables of planning reform).

Yet planning reform is unlikely to be achieved by fighting everyone head on, given the existing stakeholders, so unless sheโs aware and not letting on, everything seems a missed opportunity to put forward an argument for growth.

Would be really interesting to read anything resembling a reasonable refutation to this.
Because weirdly thereโs no sense that any of the big parties have a large caucus of MPs or high level activists vocally making this argument.

Unbelievable quite how grim are. Perma-stagnation as we keep the productivity disaster of the 2010s without the offsetting growth in the workforce. The result? "Normal" growth:
- 2.7% pre-financial crisis to
- 1.7% in 2010s
- 0.7% in 2020s

Of course, this driver is not collectively responsible for all motor vehicleists. So why are bike riders responsible for all other bike riders?

Pathetic sentence for a violent thug. Should never be able to command 3 tonnes of steel if thatโs his response to a small bump that he caused.

Maybe if there were fewer Russian dick suckers like you energy prices wouldnโt have spiked to enable this profit, but thatโs not a conversation youโre willing to have ๐คก

Shell just recorded ยฃ32 billion in profit.
3,000 people in the UK die every year because they can't afford to heat their homes.
Thereโs nothing pragmatic about letting greed run rampant while the poorest freeze to death.
Energy is a public good. It should be in public hands.
