This is spinning out into a bigger, wider employment problem. More than 330 Guardian employees - one fifth of the workforce - have signed a letter to editor Kath Viner expressing concerns about the recent pieces on trans issues.https://www.buzzfeed.com/patrickstrudwick/guardian-staff-trans-rights-letter …

Yes I agree with her as well. You can’t call yourself a media organisation if you shut down debate.
-
transphobia isn’t debate, it’s hate speech

Hi Gay this letter was about a culture and editorial stance at the UK office that keeps causing trans employees there to resign, seeinf one's coworkers turn their personhood into a "contentious issue" and give red meat to a movement of frothing bigots would be pretty distressing
-
As an Australian subscriber I really really hope the Guardian Australia senior staff don't think the UK office and its editorial staff are in the right here.

Gay, there is no reputable dispute that transgender people are real and who they say they are. Trans people are recognised in law, in medicine and in science. Your comment is like saying climate change or vaccinations are “contentious” because some people don’t believe in it.
-
Would the Guardian give a platform to people who wanted to have a debate about racial superiority disguised as phrenology?

Ppl can read the same anti-trans biological essentialist analysis, with *exactly* the same examples, on Breitbart, Fox News, The Australian Christian Lobby's site etc. Those organisations do not have transgender employees - The Guardian has a responsibility for workplace safety.
-
In what way would trans employees at the Graun be unsafe in the workplace due to their publishing an opinion piece calling for women's rights to be upheld? What do you think might happen?
