Medical leaders talk about med students & doctors need to take "resilience" courses to combat #burnout. WRONG APPROACH. No amount of such training will matter when a #healthcare system is characterized by chronic, very high levels of toxicity. #physicianburnout

Spot on! Far majority of docs are already tested tough and don’t need better coping skills. What we need is leadership willing to FIGHT to save the profession they have doomed with years of pathetic inaction & misguided priorities. Right @AmerMedicalAssn?

And that is he problem .... physician leadership in Health care system is severely lacking. Once these “leaders” assume admin role, w rare exception, they drink the kool aid and become part of the problem.

Yup. Big disconnect between docs in the trenches (especially near extinct private practice ones) and those 'leaders' at desks in suits. What happens to them??? They become the white coat version of Stepford Wives... Stepford Docs ; ) Maybe something in the kool aid?

Until we recognize it is the template and not the players, there will be abuse and finger pointing while destroying the players.

Exactly! ‘Resilience training’ makes it seem like an individual issue but burnout is a systems problem.

It’s interesting to watch medicine practiced in the EU, with surgeries beginning no earlier than 9 am; reasonable caps on resident hours (40 and even fewer)— in the realization that trainees are lso students (and people) and need time to read and study.

Agree, let’s not enable a broken system (environment of care). Let’s teach our medical students and residents the skills to identify such environments and avoid them, if possible. We can’t continue to put highly intelligent and movtivated individuals in par & subpar environments.

I concur and agree with your premise and position! Change, if it does occur, happens at a glacial pace and focuses on the superficial. Doctors are hurting now! Quitting the profession and committing suicide at alarming rates! We need solutions to help yesterday! #AnIssueToFix
