My story for @abcnews on the plan to revoke HECS-HELP access for failing students. @NUS_President says it will punish, rather than incentivise students to improve performancehttps://www.abc.net.au/radio/programs/am/failing-university-students-face-losing-hecs-help-access/12553204 …

Higher ed expert @andrewjnorton says he has "some real concerns" about how the HECS-HELP plan will be implemented but says it could have merit: "we do need to do more to manage disengaged and failing students".https://www.abc.net.au/radio/programs/am/failing-university-students-face-losing-hecs-help-access/12553204 …

When Tehan says "cases", exactly how many does he mean? Because there would only need to be two for that statement to be true but that wouldn't stop it from being, at best, a mistaken reaction to a manageable problem.

it sounds like there's one person with a $220000 debt and another with $660000 and this whole policy is using them to attack everyone else.

How? It explicitly allows for considering of personal circumstances. It'd protect students from racking up 220 000 to over half a mil in debt. If people consistently fail half their subjects they should reduce the number of subjects they take. Wasting $ and time otherwise.

Interesting, particularly given how the TAFE sector has been destroyed in the last 5-6 years.
