I want to thank my wife, Carol, and children, Kaitlin and Mike, for the endless support, and my amazing staff who handled constituent crises, a pandemic and even a (allegedly) radioactive cat with compassion, dedication and a touch of humor.

We delivered justice for survivors of child abuse, decriminalized and legalized cannabis, worked to keep our communities safe and make our justice more system, and secured millions for our schools, our villages, our police and fire departments.

Under this Majority, New York enacted critical legislation to codify the right to abortion, protect our communities from gun violence, expand voting access, begin building out a green future, guaranteed protections for our LGBTQ+ neighbors.

I want to take a moment to thank you all for allowing me the privilege to serve Long Island in the New York State Senate these past four years. Because of your support, we moved our state forward past decades of partisan roadblocks.

Today’s decision is another example of the Supreme Court making partisan decisions that will harm millions of Americans. One of the first bills I voted on was to codify the right to an abortion here in New York State.

Thank you for taking a stand against gun violence! I applaud the students at Plainview JFK. Congress needs finally act & I will continue doing everything I can in Albany to ensure our kids are safe in school, but we need our federal partners to join us so we can #StopGunViolence

I am one of the many legislative colleagues who will truly miss 's presence in Albany. A tireless advocate for #LongIsland, Jim is a compassionate, knowledgeable, focused policy maker. This is a true loss for Long Island & all NYS. Grateful for our work together.

When I first ran for the State Senate in 2016, I ran to break the logjam in Albany, to pass critical legislation that languished for decades under the Republican majority. twitter.com/YanceyRoy/stat…

Lots of candidates/elected officials talk the talk but literally walked the walk knocking on thousands of doors and calling his constituents back personally. Jim is the consummate public servant and it's been a true pleasure to work with him.

When nearly beat Carl Marcelino in 2016, it upended the conventional wisdom about where Dems could win on LI. He finished the job in 2018 and helped pass a historic agenda with the . Proud to have worked with him along the way, and to call him a friend.

But the electoral realities of my home district as drawn by the Special Master cannot be ignored. After speaking with my family, friends, and colleagues, I look forward to serving my district, my constituents, and my state for the rest of my term.
