That Microsoft/Alibaba “better than human” reading thing is totally bogus. It’s just highlighting relevant text. My five-year-old is a much better reader, able to actually comprehend narratives.
It is far better than where we were just 19 months ago. Is it your assertion that Nick Bostrom is wrong and the trajectory of progress is not an S-curve?
On machine comprehension, no, we are not in fact “far better” than we were 19 months ago. Setting aside the terrific advances in speech recognition, and focusing on actual comprehension, Google Duplex is barely ahead of ELIZA in 1965.
