ArXiv papers are never held up for content. They sometimes are held up for a few days when the classification proposed by the author is inappropriate and needs to be fixed by an editor.

Whenever I see your paper and then go back to corporate PR propaganda fire hose on twitter, I think we need a broader paper: "In defense of skepticism." period. It seems that not just deep learning is disconnected from reality these days.

It’s an interesting problem. As March noted (http://www.jstor.org/stable/20142329?casa_token=3oAIuprAfusAAAAA:ksiUwwig__zWx5NqOsjpd9O16Ej-zgmPPNAynL8NLEDDIBi4BWJ_gaNc3C-CqxlY3Cc5eTdQvA6KZYi8U6_9Xm01riVL0kAz4ZV_UkbsF4bTUIIFBcJi&seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents …), hype oversells, but at the same time it mobilizes investment (both in terms of financial capital and allocation of attention and effort by people).

Why didn’t you just write a blog post?
-
Indeed. We, your readers, are your peers, Marcus. We'll review it and let you know what we think.

Marcus, why don't you just write an article on Medium or some other popular venue? Why is arXiv so important?

Happy New Year Gary. Whats your main argument for why we should be skeptical of 'deep learning'?
