E.O. Wilson, in "Consilience," points out that modern science is transdisciplinary science. Wanting (and needing) to be transdisciplinary kept me from getting a Ph.D., as researchers must narrowcast to a single subject area and a few related areas.https://twitter.com/GaryMarcus/status/1200791300330545154 …

I see Val posted the piece. But I would love to see op-eds and articles on the need for transdisciplinary science and also have this call be a part of scientific conferences, like
@SPSPnews and med research confs. This really needs to change. -
a major if quiet theme of http://Rebooting.AI is that AI can't be solved by ML alone and needs lots of interdisciplinary collaboration. i would be happy to bring out that theme more strongly for some forum. (it's also implicit here: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/06/opinion/ai-explainability.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share … )

Change in the stats arena is actually a transdisciplinary movement! Thousands of people work on it (I'm a zoologist). Here is one of our contributions:https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-019-00857-9 …

I couldn't fit you all in! Also, as I said recently to Sander, I appreciate the clarity of your work -- also
@dailyzad. It's really important that those who are not statisticians can understand the points you're making.
