I feel w/ unit tests in regular coding, can 'cheat' & write code that passes the tests yet doesn't serve the business function. "But look, it passes! Write more tests & we'll make it pass those too!" isn't enough bc writing tests to *fully* specify behaviour is vv hard/impossible

I wonder if your dispute w/ deep learning folks feels anything like this? That "ha, see, it passes!" is just missing the point?
