What constitutes an empirically useful model? Because ANNs can make empirical predictions of brains. Is it just that you don't find these useful?

it's a start, but a correlation with post hoc selected models that explain at most half of the "explainable" variance in a single task is at most an invitation to study more. as any good cognitive psychologist knows, multiple models often yield similar behavioral profiles.
