To some, this type of malfeasance is merely annoying. I'm coming to the opinion it's dangerous; govs and companies are employing systems hyped as having Star Trek capabilities, inserting these crude techniques into decision-making flows

Tbh I did not see your critiques of these systems as very meaningful when aimed at the research community. But I do agree if this is how ml is presented to the public, they'll have very skewed notions of what current capabilities are, and that really does matter politically.
