Ng's "< 1 second" comment isn't obviously true to me. In contrast, Douglas Hofstadter points out that quick "gist-extraction" -- making sense of a complex situation, usually by making analogies -- is something humans excel at doing very rapidly, but current AI doesn't.

Right. Ng knows. But even the term aI is a misnomer. That’s the holy grail. Pattern recognition and ML are fine should suffice for these more trivial apps
