To be fair, our understanding of language has come a long way since the 60s. We’re harsher critics as well as more skilled. And even in GPT there is a something of an implicit model richer than ELIZA’s. Agree on both. I am being generous. Fully expect systems to fail for a *very* long time as we get better at detection and understanding. And totally agreed that throwing compute power at the problem is now into diminishing returns. But I would say that, coming from psychology.
