It's obviously not the right sort of innateness, though, otherwise our problems would already be solved. Much of the inductive bias ML researchers incorporate into their models is ad hoc and not biologically plausible.
and also not cognitively plausible (eg no child is exposed to gigabytes of text)

Yes. Even BERT/GPT etc. would seem to be trained on vastly more text than a child is exposed to, yet don't appear able to solve basic reading comprehension tasks that a child can.
