Cantwell Smith's argument has more in common with Kant's Critique of Pure Reason than the more contemporary nature/nurture haggling. Evolutionary learning might account for much of the 'achievement' in question.

Not so sure about that, he explicitly discounts hybrid models because they don't resolve the underlying philosophical issues with symbolic methods
