Davis might be arguing for alternative methods to numerical simulation: https://cs.nyu.edu/davise/research.html#Matter … . But there is no evidence in reality for the viability of this approach.
Davis and I; it's collaborative. The example is humans (and many animlas); we argue that they can't do detailed simulation in many cases, work well from incomplete data, with hard-to-sim things like liquids, etc. So there must be other, heuristic mechanisms. (you might agree)

We are entering here into the realm of chaotic and complex systems. In this realm, the compressed narratives required by human brains may be unavailable. Realize that the 3-body problem has no symbolic solution. The 3D Navier-Stokes has no symbolic solution. Symbols don't scale!

All the equations of physics have symbolic solutions only for toy problems. May that sink in, only toy problems. Real problems are computed using numerical methods.
