Statistical models without reasoning sounds like someone talking in the sleep, or Kahneman's System-1. The question is, can reasoning be learned purely from text (i.e. Chinese room)?
GPT-2 doesn’t in itself give a lot of reason to be optimistic, if you compare the amount of data it is trained on and the quality of the results
