Consideration of possible motives for going to the mass media with a "critique" of "deep learning" that says nothing that isn't already commonly understood by smart people working in or following the field. This isn't about science.

Are you suggesting that once someone has published something they are no longer allowed to publicly opine about that topic because of a conflict of interests? If so, every other researcher in the world is guilty too.

Anyone who believes in the climate change scam doesn't have the smarts to be in AGI research, IMO. Marcus is a perfect example. But that's just me.

One survey after another, human equivalence around 2050 is the median expectation. Same result for lay and expert surveys. But very wide dispersion. Many practitioners expect much sooner, like 2030. Others very emphatically say it's way off, or never.

we can get there in 2050, but only if people in power stop criticizing and trying to supress those who point out limitations (sure signs of scientific ill-health)

yes, frequent ad hominem attacks from field leaders who say I have no right to comment because my publications are primarily in other fields sure look that way to me.
