This is not a "truthy" statement. Symbolic is when pixels somehow become shapes (or something else), and processing is done using 'the shapes' as the most basic element of the model.
..using only the specific functuonal interactions of each shape (or symbol) with the other shapes to arrive at the solution. There is a level of abstraction that reduces computational processing/loads, compared to raw inputs/reality. And it has to be not-problem-specific.
