The motivation is that we can't wait for smarter AI, we can only try to mitigate the risks. I think we can do that pretty effectively, with only minor changes to current regulation and small developer compliance burden.

Should be later today. It doesn't contradict your main thesis. Smarter AI would be a huge deal. In the near term though I think current AI can be safe. While we can't put common sense *in them* yet, we can use our own smarts outside the models to minimise risks.
