Excellent debate! Clearly, human common sense derives, in great part, from he wealth of a-priori knowledge that has accumulated through evolution and which is embedded in genetically-instantiated neural subnetworks. DL has none of this on its drawing board.

Nice! Yoshua Bengio confirming what I've been saying about Deep Learning (System 1 - Intuition) for a while now: https://gumroad.com/products/IHDj

BTW, here's my Intuition Machines vs Algebraic Minds (

if you're not advocating for a "simple hybrid" between symbolism & connectionism, then can you please point to a single implementation that: a) is representative of the thing you have in mind, and b) succeeded on a challenging task that has escaped a pure DL system?

as i have explained before AlphaGo is actually a great example: monte carlo tree search plus deep learning. since i heard you read the book, am surprised you missed this.

Important discussion! Indeed, AlphaGo is a hybrid AI approach. Hybrid AI is also at the heart of (deep) probabilistic (logic) programming, which may also provide a growth path for the computational modelling of complex intelligent systems that see, read, understand, and act.

It is amusing that companies keep results under NDA. as if observing learning systems is some how a trade secret. And as if it’s a good idea for advancement in understanding should be kept hidden. This is one thing AI folks should work on. Transparency.

That is the only way to support the claim that a rock can be conscious.
