I don't argue that you can solve them without common sense. I argue that we don't need robotics and AI to do the things you describe in your examples. It is just tech for tech's sake.
how about reading? you could pick on the particular examples, but we absolutely need reading and you can't do it without common sense.

I can read fine without AI. Having AI comprehend a text is a nice tech problem - with little practical upshot - and would bring with it a host of ethical issues.

think you could build ethical AI that is illiterate, and with so little common sense that it can't compute harm? or that you can build AI that can actually help solve medical research problems that have eluded humans because of the complexity of the molecular interactions?
